    Tabletop CNC

Perhaps a quibble, but ... I think of "lead screw" as only referring to the Z (left-to-right or right-to-left) movement, so "more than one electronic lead screw" doesn't really make sense. :) Certainly to do a cam on a lathe, we are moving beyond ELS and into CNC territory!

Clough42 has made and sells an ELS. Here are some relevant links. Note that I have not tried this out, and have no affiliation and no personal experience with this - only what I've seen on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/@Clough42/playlists https://clough42.com/shop/...

I'm going to revert back to English - I fear we are pushing the boundaries on using another language. In 2025, I will probably be in Athens, Corinth, and a couple of the islands.

That would seem to be a lot of chips! Looking forward to seeing more.

Repairing my shaper, an ongoing saga.

Good work! I love my little 7" shaper - not the fastest tool in my inventory, but very satisfying to see it peel off metal. I need to fix an annoying issue with the auto-feed pawl - it doesn't always want to catch when set for left-to-right motion. Not sure if a stronger spring or a sharper tip...

    3D printer stepper driver selection

Good point; I stand corrected. Let me amend my statement to say, for the vast majority of 3d printers discussed in this forum, that driver would be overkill. :)

    3D printer stepper driver selection

The device in the link is way overkill for a 3d printer. Something like a TMC "silent stepper" will do the trick as far as the "singing" of the stepper motors. If fan noise is a problem, the only fix I know of is a better quality fan.

    Budget HSS lathe tool grinder

With respect to scrap yards in this area (North Carolina), it varies widely. Some do not allow any scrap-picking; others do. My primary source is not actually a scrap yard, but a metal scrap bin used by the institution where I work. I obtained permission to scavenge from it some 20+ years ago...

Model Diesel: 32mm bore, 38mm stroke, indirect injection

I've heard the term "upset" used for displacing metal through a blow. Seems apropos in this sort of situation ... which I have caused far too many times!

    Budget HSS lathe tool grinder

No dumpster-diving? That is just downright depressing ... the majority of the stock I have on hand, and consequently the materials used in building belt grinder, slip roll, and any number of other tooling has come from the metal scrap bin. I should note that I do have permission to "dive" there. :)

    Budget HSS lathe tool grinder

Exactly - I love seeing a treadmill discarded on the side of the road. Sometimes (rarely) the motor is bad; sometimes (rarely) the controller is bad, or is of a proprietary design that is difficult to hack. But most of the time, both work fine, or the motor from one can be married to the...
