Welcome! I have a lot of cousins in Southwest MO (Springfield and Hartville).

    Who's up for a challenge

My hat is off to you and others who do this miniature work! It is way beyond my ability even to conceive of how to go about it, much less to execute it so beautifully.

    True Rotary Vane Engine

Exactly. I'd love to see someone prove me wrong, but for the moment, I think that any such attempt is going to be ... ... wait for it ... ... ... in vane. :)

    hello from Viet Nam

Welcome to the forum! I visited in Vietnam in 1974 (I think? around that time), traveling around the south visiting with missionary families. I found it to be an incredibly beautiful country, which made the devastation of war even more sad. I remember one place in particular - I don't recall the...

    FreeCad .21.2 22dev Anyone happy?

As I recall, when I was modeling the blower shown in my earlier post, I calculated the size of, and generated, circular sections at the 4 quadrant points, and did a 4-part "additive pipe" operation. FC took care of generating the smooth increase in size between sections.

    FreeCad .21.2 22dev Anyone happy?

Again, interesting. I've run FC on a variety of i5 machines (Dell and HP), one with an NVidia GPU but the others with only the graphics built into the i5. Also run on a Dell with an AMD CPU, don't recall which one, no GPU. Depending on the machine, 8 Gb, 16Gb, or 32Gb. No problems with any of...

    FreeCad .21.2 22dev Anyone happy?

Interesting - if it is on thingiverse, someone besides me put it there. I had shared the design with a machining forum, so maybe someone pulled it from there. Not a problem per se, since I am happy to share it with anyone who wants it. Interesting - I have not run into any problems, but I have...

    FreeCad .21.2 22dev Anyone happy?

I do like and use OpenSCAD for a lot of my 3d printing projects. The "programming" approach works well for me, as an old software developer, and it lends itself to designs that can be modified with a couple of parameters to suit various needs. An example is a project I made that creates a knob -...

    FreeCad .21.2 22dev Anyone happy?

I've only tinkered a bit with Blender, but everything I've read suggests that 1) it is incredibly powerful for 3d modeling (not CAD per se, but especially for organic shapes), and 2) it has a very, very steep learning curve. Yikes, if true that will be a major change. As I recall, FC is built...

    FreeCad .21.2 22dev Anyone happy?

Hmm ... what I heard - maybe incorrectly? - was that every CAD package has some "goofy problems" - so if one is going to use CAD at all, take your pick and learn to navigate its particular set of problems. Again, I may be misunderstanding, and if so I apologize for putting words in TSutrina's...

Based on the videos I have watched (e.g., MangoJelly), in the .22dev version, one of the new features is that you can see the size of the object as you sketch it - e.g., you will see the dimensions of the rectangle - and can even immediately enter the desired values without having to do a...

A New Method (?) to Dynamically Change Cam Timing when Engine is Running

Interesting idea! Seems viable to me ... I look forward to hearing how it works out.

    Bridgeport 2J (1 1/2 HP) Upper Repair

H&W rocks! Not only their videos and supplies, but I also had a couple of phone calls with them when I was rebuilding my 2J2 head. FWIW, I did not wind up replacing the bearings - they have been fine - but did have to replace the belt, one of the pulleys, and ... seems like there was something...

    FreeCad .21.2 22dev Anyone happy?

Can you give a specific example where you have run into this problem? I have to say that in many years of using FreeCAD, I have only occasionally hit a situation where the order of constraints made a difference, but that may simply mean that 1) my projects haven't led to the problem, or 2) I...
