Single Cylinder Opposed 2 Piston Engine

Ray, I searched the USPTO and WIPO sites for any patent refs and didn't find any for that engine type in that era, although I found plenty of patents with Gustav Gobron as the inventor. He was a very busy guy! Lloyd

    Off-Grider Generator Kit

Like a pellet stove with auto feed? You are itching to control something cool with an Arduino, aren't you? And yes, that WOULD be cool. Especially if it actually worked. I recently converted our kitchen oven to PID control. Actually you can run it either in its normal electronic control...

    Off-Grider Generator Kit

It was kinda like a heart ICD device with no safety instructions.

    Off-Grider Generator Kit

@Richard Hed Yes, off topic, weaving all over the road and barely staying out of the ditches. I doubt GT minds. But speaking of learning and kids books, I was in the 7th grade and checked a book out of the library on "Experiments for kids," or something like that. One of them involved winding...

    Piston rings?

@pyro I think you can see that the subject of making piston rings is quite provocative, with more chance of failure than success (IMHO). Figure out what size ring you need before you start building your engine and do a google search for the rings. You might not find exactly the size you...

    Off-Grider Generator Kit

Very interesting history of how you changed and adapted the setup as technology changed, but kept some of the key elements (that were doing well) in the system. Having that nice source of batteries for the original installation and then again when replacement time came around, must have really...

    Off-Grider Generator Kit

Jim (?) Wow, I love that narrative! You are one of the few (to my knowledge) that has stuck with the energy independence for such a long time. My hat is off to you, my good sir. And indeed, the technology has improved exponentially since your first 55 foot wind tower. Maintaining a frugal energy...

    Off-Grider Generator Kit

@GreenTwin Jack Nicholson from The Shining should be driving that truck with smoke and flames rolling out and a big deadly snowplow breathing down your neck.

    Off-Grider Generator Kit

Yup. Another thing that only you can operate, LOL. My wife has plenty of those, too.

    Off-Grider Generator Kit

Wow, I am assuming that that is being sold as a novelty, LOL. For $6,500 plus transportation you can buy a lot of trouble free (more or less) modern equipment where you don't have to be shoveling coal in the middle of the winter. Yikes!

There is a fungus among us.

WARNING - *************** An invasion or a conspiracy, but by whom, and why? Don, after seeing your original post and then seeing Ken's evidence of gnomes in your locality, I set up my trail cam near a patch of healthy mushrooms [toadstools]. Gnomes are not a common sight in the US, and my...

There is a fungus among us.

I have a few friends who are mushroom hunters and they have put the fear in me about the dangers. During one rainy spring, on a warm day I went on a woods walk with one of the mushroom men. I obviously did not know what to look for because he spotted probably 10x what I did. Very educational. He...

What have you been doing today?

These big caterpillars are pretty good sauteed quick in olive oil with spinach and Parmesan. With the spinach, you never know when you are going to bite into one. Its better that way. I think they are more a vegetable than a meat.

What have you been doing today?

Chazz, yes, the changing inventory does screw things up. Years ago my wife noticed a short steel cabinet with (30) 3x9 drawers on Craigslist, and I had a perfect spot for it. I usually buy my hardware by the box from McMaster and I labeled the drawers by basic size: #2, #4, #6, #8, #10, 1/4...

What have you been doing today?

Organize, re-organize. It gets a little better each time, hopefully. I like the labels on the organizers. Gotta have those if your memory is anything like mine. Years ago I was visiting a younger friend and he had a big bucket of bolts and screws that he had "inherited" from his dad." He was...

Injected Diesel 56cc 2 Stroke, Will it ever work?"

The gears for the front gear train won't be arriving for a few weeks and I just used some timing belts and pulleys that I had on hand. They are on the other side of the view in the video in post #313. They work for a few minutes and then get slack on the idler and go out of adjustment, so I am...

Injected Diesel 56cc 2 Stroke, Will it ever work?"

IT WAS JUST TURNING OVER TO CHECK IT OUT BUT IT REALLY WANTED TO FIRE ! Its not finished and I was just turning it over with a motor that was way too big at about 600 rpm and it kept trying to fire. There is no fuel connected to the injector. My guess is some residual oil in the cylinder or a...

    Straight 6 Cylinder Engine

@GreenTwin , Now THAT might be bordering on a problem.... no, na, its ok. Totally off topic, sorry, but what kind of wood is on that tool wall? It's not the typical pine and I can't see enough detail in the grain, but I do have my suspicions. Maybe just one closeup pic as a hint? Is it...

    Straight 6 Cylinder Engine

WOW, has someone told you that you have a problem? Do YOU think you have a problem? My unbiased opinion is ,NO, you do not have a problem. Your engines are still spectacular. Perfectly healthy IMHO. Lloyd

Model Diesel: 32mm bore, 38mm stroke, indirect injection

This might be a totally useless suggestion, but I have had some success with, instead of using a hardened steel barrel, using a brass barrel, reamed slightly undersize and then repeatedly forcing a correct sized dowel pin in and out of the brass to expand the hole and burnish the finish. It...
