    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

It's so good that it affords to evacuate waste gasses at a temperature higher than usual steam's top T; and still stands tall. Of course, I try not to mix apples with pears, as steam cycles are still the highest efficient thermodynamic and overall energy generation path.

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

It is not a direct proof of Tesla's turbine potential, but as long as internal combustion engines were the kings, most of the money for development went in their improvement. There should be no wonder why progress in electrical power chain was so slow and that it looked unpromising. Now, as due...

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

Thank you very much Nerd1000 for taking time to put everything in a useful parametric format and for sharing it! I think it will help many in their calculations; either estimative or detailed.

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

For the sake of truth, I haven't made what could be called deep dive calculations; as I remember Toymaker or Nerd1000 looked through his charted pool of data, diagrams ... and gave some estimations for certain values related to Tesla Turbine's parameters, and there were also the others sharing...

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

Hi Peter, there might be military applications of Tesla Turbine; off course we won't be aware of them most probably. Off course, it is not main stream; otherwise we would find it somehow. For civil applications, I'm aware only of prototypes.

I have seen the mentioned efficiency increase jump in this video: Around min. 3.30 . It really is amazing!

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

Thank you for the answer and Good Luck, K2! Considering also what Nerd1000 above said, ceramic bearings are the answer. A lot of friction in standard steel, greased, encapsulated bearings.

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

Hi K2. Can you please specify the measuring units and the reading of manometer on attached video? I am used to think in bars and image is not focussed. With all consideration and ignoring condensation, it is obvious that the turbine is (almost) completely out of its "comfort zone". The fact that...

    What about turbine's rpm?

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

I know FEA is traditionally linked with solid materials and their behaviour correlated to physical shape and dimensions; but as a principle I am sure it translates to programs dedicated to fluids and their properties, considering interactions and modifications of elemental volumes of fluid...

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

Fair enough! Speaking about the real Napier Deltic, that was a nightmare for its designer! That-s why I can't understand why a relatively simple mechanism and thermodynamic device :( like Tesla Turbine is not scientifically described with a reasonable degree of precision; either as a pure...

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

I have the same view. That's why I recommend trials avoiding condensation as much as possible. I'd say there's no big deal in using different setup - just for testing. I would say for a reasonable fraction of condensate, it remains in suspension. On another point of view, the model considering...

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

Drain, I think, is very good. Definitely you need good bearings. You might try to use a reversible electrical motor to bring it first to a reasonable speed and only after work as generator, but the problem of condensate generation remains. Clearly it needs more steam volume and if possible...

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

Was it tested? From the notes on it might seem so. Do you know with what results? Is it still in working order and can be run? And a different comment - I have seen a Tesla turbine after a test -run with all disks from package twisted in a horrible way. Care should be taken for heat expansion...

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

I guess we all can see particular facets of phenomenon and the more we underline them the better. Can't stop but thinking of these days Chinese tests with hypersonic missile electric/rail gun. The test was not 100% successful and according predictions; and I'm sure hundreds of thousands were...

K2, you're also right! But. Aerodynamics is also part of gas dynamics. There is no either one or the other. Second, jets coming from nozzles are divergent so they soon reach a larger extent than the spacing of disks. Of course, the core remains smaller and maintains a lot of original...

    DIY Tesla Impulse Turbine

I might be wrong, but I think (just like in the case of aircraft wing), a continuous linear nozzle with the apropriate profile, would give a little better results than a series of circular ones, and with a bit of chance would be easier to machine. I would say, replacing multiple nozzles by a...

    Monotube Flash Boiler Design

Hi Toymaker. I know this type of motor. 600W might not be continuous power. But I think with additional cooling it can cope.
