    Lets Talk about Engine Drawings

I've worked in the design field for "Awhile" & have learned more from the fellows "on the floor" what they need. What I try to do: First off, a good drawing with the basic views of the part/assembly & an isometric view of it & a complete bill of materials. The following pages show the...

    Lets Talk about Engine Drawings

Some great insight & examples here. It's good info to take in for what model engine builders would like to see & good for all the new designers to aspire too. Brian Rupnow has been a huge contributor to this site (& others) & his drawings are very well done, not only does his thoughts start...

1916 65 HP Case Traction Engine 1/16 Scale

That all looks great! I'm not sure about the socket head screws though...but, I understand the difficulty of having fitted hex head screws in. I think the eagle looks pretty good, how did you do that? I thought I had remembered seeing someone 3D print an eagle (somewhere?) & using that.. it...

    Diesel Kitty Cat

I had a kitty who liked to sit on my keyboard, or in a toolbox, or the workbench whenever I tried working on those things. She was a great distraction. Now I have some kitties in my barn who refuse to leave unless I feed 'em (or start my air compressor). At least they remind me that quitting...

    Diy hydraulic shop press

You may want to consider adding a couple more pieces of angle to the lower half, this way you can have a "Table" to rest the parts on & let the press come up through the bottom & create some different press plates for removing bearings as well. John

1916 65 HP Case Traction Engine 1/16 Scale

All that I can add is that it looks great! I'm not sure about that front axle ("Perch") mount though. It seems strange how small it was on the real machine. I like your idea though... Thinking ahead...I think the rear platform was too short from the plans, there was something up with that...

    1/3 Scale Ford 289 Hi-Po

Wonderful work Terry! Forgive me if I missed it in previous posts (I get sidetracked pretty easily with all your great pix..), but how are you tapping the holes in all that aluminum? Have you tried form taps? What are you using for cutting fluid? Are you just using the recommended drill sizes...

What have you been doing today?

You suck. I'm jealous, looks like you're having alot of fun. Here, 40 deg., wind chill makes it less than 20. Sheesh... Enjoy

    Elmers Engine 2x#33

But what about the valve eccentrics? How do those work when the valve gear is inside the crank throws? John

    Elmers Engine 2x#33

Any particular reason why you would want the valve chests inward? John

    FreeCAD: A moderately complex example

Thanks Andy (& others) for your comments. It seems a shame to have to work around limitations of the software to accomplish things, but I haven't worked on any software where I DIDN'T have to do that. I also understand now why you did the spreadsheet/parameter thing, I've been bitten (Like...

    FreeCAD: A moderately complex example

It seems you were able to totally over complicate this. Although you may have your reasons,, See my explanation above (Post #3) & try it. It's cool how you use the spread sheet to drive your model, but unless you're doing multiple variations of this, I don't understand why you would do this...

    FreeCAD: A moderately complex example

Nice CAD/Printing work. Those kind of projects are fun to model up! It's funny how complicated it appears when 3D modeling something like this. I went through a tutorial (For Pro-E) on modeling an impeller many years ago that went ("Simply") something like this: 1. Extrude the circular base...
