    O Ring for piston rings

OK Thanks. That is the information that I was looking for. I will try again. Interesting information from Jim G on the different materials.

    O Ring for piston rings

What are the specifications for using O rings for piston rings? In the past I have seen specifications for sizing the width and depth of the ring groove. If I remember correctly the groove was actually wider and deeper than the actual O ring and depended on compression to force the O ring...

    Head gasket

I am still working on this from time to time until I get frustrated and move on to something else. My solution is ultimately going to be adding two more head bolts in the valve area as you suggest. I have been trying to work out an ignition system to fire both cylinders using a wasted spark...

    Head gasket

Obviously there are different theories on this, In this thread it has been pointed out that the surface finish on the head must be mirror smooth or rough to embed into the gasket. My thoughts are that it has to be smooth if no gasket is used but slightly rough if a gasket is used. On the engine...

    Nice coil and ignition

I am not familiar with electronics but could this be used as a coil on something like a TIM6 circuit or would it require additional parts and circuit?

HELP, my shop is a MESS

I did not say that I did that. I said that I probably should do that. Great intentions and poor implementation.

HELP, my shop is a MESS

A welding/fabricating shop where I worked for a while quit a half hour early on Friday and the boss went out for beer while the rest of the crew cleaned the shop and put everything back in place. Worked well in the six person shop and meant that everyone started with a clean area on Monday...

    Head gasket

Just a wild thought but has anyone ever tried to 3D print a head gasket? ABS will withstand pretty high temperatures. I have not really investigated it but I may try it just for an experiment.

HELP, my shop is a MESS

When I was running my fabricating shop it was actually easier because I would work on one project at a time and when it was complete I would ship it out and start the next project. At the end of the project I would always put everything back before I started the next project. That was all tools...

    Head gasket

Cylinder and head are aluminum so using silver solder is out and I have no way to weld aluminum.

    Head gasket

OK So this is the result after removing all tool marks with 1200 sandpaper. Same as before. Leaks all around the side nub and not around the main cylinder. Teflon gasket and both cylinders leak at the same point. This is with 20PSI.

    Head gasket

OK Back in the shop. I had taken a light cut across the face of both the head and the cylinder. Since some folks seemed to think that the surfaces should be rough I did not lap them on my flat plate. The next thing to try is to try lapping the surfaces. If all else fails I will either add head...

    Head gasket

I have tried a mirror finish with wet/dry sandpaper and three different gasket materials. Teflon works the best but not constantly. It is interesting that the advice is that I need a rougher surface and a smoother surface. In every case it leaks at the same place on both heads. It leaks out...

    Head gasket

Not having much luck. Teflon seems to work the best but still not a complete seal. I refaced the head and the cylinder to be sure that the surface was flat. It leaks around the valve area off to the side. Not much sealing area at that point. FYI Bore is 3/4 and valve dia is 1/4. This is from a...

    Head gasket

What do others use for head gasket material. I have an engine which I am having a problem getting to seal. I have tried .015 fibre gasket material and .030 material and also .33mm PTFE. The regular gasket material does not seal at all and the PTFE seals sometimes but not consistently. It may...

Wanted Spark Plug boots for 1/4 - 32 Plugs I need a source

It does not say what size plug it fits. Since they list a 1/4-32 I assume that it will fit that size.

Wanted Spark Plug boots for 1/4 - 32 Plugs I need a source

I have been playing around with 3D printing them using TPU filament. I have made usable boots but I still have to do some more playing around and I presently have a problem with my printer. Bad heat sensor.

    Taking it up a step---

I have an inside micrometer like Brian has on order and have not found it to be very useful I have better luck with snap gauges. I have two depth gauges. I bid on two of them on eBay and got both of them. One I got for about $10 and the other for about $25. I have not used them very much because...

Time for a new Horizontal Hit and Miss engine

Why are you sending your wife out to the grocery store? Why not just go kill a bear for her?

Time for a new Horizontal Hit and Miss engine

Is it perhaps due to the fact that you were adding oil to the gas and when you put on the drip oiler you no longer added oil to the gas? Has this happened since you stopped using oil in the gas?
