    thank you thank you

sorry but i have to go, but i wanted to thank you all for some great ideas you gave me. i went through your entire sight and learned at least ten great ideas. That is quite an accomplishment as most machining books i read leave me with a big yawn. and by the way i do appreciate being called a...

    a bench grinder mod

OK, have you ever had to cut off a piece of tool steel and did it on the corner of your bench grinder. Looks like a beaver chewed it off and then look at what you did to your wheel. Matabo, or undoubtedly others make a five inch reinforced cut off wheel with a 7/8 inch hole. So i made a...

    pocket scriber

You can make a real handy scriber by putting a drill blank in a normal retractable pencil. I use a Number 70 or 71 blank. the high speed steel that they are made out of will not loose it's temper if you over heat it while sharpening. and you can extend it any length to mark a hole or get into...

putting a live center on your drill press

I am sure you are right about being able to sand in a lathe but somehow i just cant bring myself to do it. And thanks for bringing up the safety issue. as far as sanding it is compleatly safe but i wouldn't want to start drilling big holes that way. for instance i used it once to build a toy for...

putting a live center on your drill press

I have seen some lame suggestions of making a lathe by putting a center on your drill press. but it does make a real nice way to sand turned items on centers. (i hate to sand on my lathe) I bought a live center for, i believe it was a unimat, It has a short 0 Morse taper. i moved my table over...

    circuit breakers before a VFD

I am an electrician by trade. 40 years experience. No doubt about it, you need to run a separate line to the lathe. be sure to pull a large green ground wire in the pipe along with the power.Same size as the power wires or better. Do not use a breaker, use fuses before the freque drive. there is...

    File handles

i am still working on figuring out how to send pictures. I bought my spur center from woodcraft and any on line wood store should have them. wood turners use Morse tapers just like metal turners. I find them a pain because you have to cross saw the wood and center drill (a small twist drill, not...

    File handles

For things like file handles you can just pretend it is metal and turn it just the same. four jawed chucks work fine. pear will work fine with centers and a lathe dog. I do it all the time and i have a spur center.
