Cleaning a Heidenhain DRO glass scale

It was the idea, that it should be used on the colchester. I knew about shortening it, i don't know if it's necessary yet, i just got it in the workshop tonight, been busy cleaning it up with a lot of help from my oldest son. John, just changed the headliner to say "cleaning Heidenhain DRO...

    Taper Attachment for import lathe

What i meant is, you can't take it all in one pass, how do you adjust the depth of each pass? Back in my youth, i worked with a lathe with taper attachment, IIRC the crossslide handle was somehow attached to the taper, making it possible to adjust the depth on each pass. BTW we turned 45 deg...

Cleaning a Heidenhain DRO glass scale

Last week one of our EDM machines had a faulty glass scale and the technician decided to change it for a new one, i scored the old one, and will try to clean it. Both ends of the scale can be removed, both ends are held in place with 2 philips screws and some silicone The technician pointed...

    I stole a lathe!!!

I am very interested in your schematic, i have been searching the net, but only found out that it should be a Schmitt trigger to avoid electric noise. I have been working with electronics at repair basis, not as developer, however i can make PCB's. and solder components. I will try to use the...

I do think it was a good score, and i can't wait to get it into my little workshop and start cleaning it up, i only paid a little bit more than the asking price on the Danish Machine Company lathe, but this one is in a whole other league, and cant be compared in any way. what should i do with the...

    New headstock on old lathe

Thank you very much Arnold. I looked at our Schaublin today at work, it have 1.5 pitch gears, and i think they look small, i also looked at our large far east lathe (90 mm bore) and found it fitted with 2.5 pitch, and they looked large, so i think a 2 pitch will suit a lathe this size, but that...

    New headstock on old lathe

I have been thinking of belts and pulleys for noise reduction, but i think it will only be used for cutting treads, i am planning on using a variable speed motor for the feed, disengaging the tumbler Holt

    New headstock on old lathe

As promised, a few pics of the lathe i am thinking about buying: Certainly the right size for my taste, a bit over 1 meter between centers Most of the brown stuff are grease, and not rust, it would be possible to clean it up quite nicely i think. There are a few things that worries me No...

Don, thanks for correcting my link. Rick,i have seen your tread before, nice work, but i think i would have mounted a second motor directly to the new head, would have been a bit quieter Holt

    flattening it OLD SKOOL

There is more ways to face the edges on a lathe, depending on the size of the lathe, you can clamp the stock to the crosslide, and mount a mill in the headstock, with a dial indicator you can set it to be square, you could mount it in a 4 jaw independent chuck, and turn the edges. there are more...

    carbide cutting hard things

When i need to turn something hardened at work, i use aluminium inserts, the sharp edge on the insert cuts the steel like butter, but one wrong turn of the handle and the insert is history, and you can forget interrupted cuts Holt
