I made a wider slot in the shaft, and a wider key was turned and grinded, the gear wasn't worn, so i milled the top side of the key to fit the gear.

Nice one you got there. If your lathe are able to go backwards, you can cut internal treads by setting the treads cutter at the back of the hole and back out of it (did that make any sense?) Holt

John - you were quite right to point out the different types of glass scales, and that they should be serviced in different ways, i would also add that no one should clean their scales unless they don't work, there is always a risk involved, don't blame me if you can't get it working again.
