How concerned should I be about Lead (Pb) content of free machining metals?

Unfortunately this is not the case. There is no direct relationship between lead concentration in the air and lead concentration in the blood. This is mainly because of the protective filtering characteristics of the lungs (ingestion is much less dangerous). Bigger particles stick to the mucus...

    Whats up with HMEM?

I'm not into the details of american copyright. But in Germany and many other countries, the „becomes property of xyz“ formula does not apply anyway. The artist can grant some kind of unlimited and exclusive license (insert correct term here ;)), but the work remains property of the artist...

    Whats up with HMEM?

The article promoting dubious plans for a perpetuum mobile was removed. I don't mind articles about wind turbines or biomass gasification.

    Whats up with HMEM?

This is annoying, dispels new members and will ruin the community sooner or later. Please remove this *article* from the main page.

Time to buy a lathe and mill.

You have disassemble these machines prior to use, because there's casting sand and grinding dust residue in the headstock, in the gearbox, under the carriage and in the lubrication grooves of the ways. So weight isn't a problem, it'll be in handy parts. You'll have to buy some measuring...

    A different opposed piston engine---

Brian, there was an engine of that kind in Germany 80 years ago called "Balance-Motor" by OTTO GRAF. The balancer ("ugly grey part") was seated with an excenter to automatically change the stroke during operation, which was controlled by the vaccum in the induction manifold. Thus the engine...

Is this a good mill to go for?

I talked to an importer three years ago (because i wanted to know why they put american made belts and german made motors on chinese-build lathes). He told me he was travelling to china serveral times a year to go to exhibitions and to place orders and there are dozens(!) of factories of that...

Thread cutting on a Stanko 1A616

How large is a single tooth? M2 is probably the gear's pitch (module, modul).

    My 100cc V4 2-Stroke

It has nothing to do with reproduction or claiming ownership. This guy is most likely getting paid. They are skimming the web for content to increase the rank in web searches and to attract visitors. It's all about money.

"Out Of Phase" and "Piston "Throw"

"out of phase": This has two meanings: 1. Static: Camshaft angle does not match crankshaft angle. eg when the timingbelt is replaced incorrectly. This causes the valves to open and close at the wrong times. Can lead to engine failure if valves collide with the piston, wont start otherwise. 2...

    Hardening camshafts

I didn't look up what you 2cyl engine is made for. For RC planes, boats or cars I recommend to heat-treat the cams. Same for piston rings. If build to run occasionally on exhibitions heat-treatment is not necessary.

    v8 shillings

Why did you make a large hole in the most important bearing surface of the 4-stroke pistonskirt?! You need every mm² here! Regarding plans: Please do not infringe copyright. By supporting piracy you will not encourage publishing companies or private party to produce detailed plans or to share...

    Need a casting made please...

Alu dxl 180x40 is around 20Euro incl tax for private customers in Germany. I wonder how many hours you really want to work for savings of... maybe 10?!

Titanium - Don't even think about using it if it has a bearing surface like a conrod.

It's not the overall size of the crossection or specific stiffness, the problem is the shape (geometry). The elastic section modulus about the axis is the interesting point. What we want is great strenght in direction of the swiveling motion (high section modulus), and some flex about the other...

Titanium - Don't even think about using it if it has a bearing surface like a conrod.

Apart from material??, lots of lubrication?? (15% to 20% Oil for run in) and the very close tolerances required for these fits, a circular crossection for the conrod's shaft is a very bad idea. I made a sketch for explanation.

    Multi-pole model generator.

The endmill shown above is for abrasive materials such as fibre enforced plastics, wood, non enforced plastics, circuit cardboard and so on and suitable for rather soft non-ferrous metals such as non-hardened copper and some kinds of aluminium. Its made of very hard and brittle carbide with a...

    Exhaust valve forces

Don't waste too much time on guestimating the pressure. If you had somehow underestimated the pressure (which is rather unlikely, as even 3bar is way too much for slow running and low compression) the valve will open a little bit later when pressure has fallen a bit. And if it doesn't, you can...

    Vertes dividing head failing ????

The bushing is unnecessary. Your original failed because someone tightened the tensile stress sensitive cast iron way too much. The part will last forever if made of free machining steel with some lead content. Integrate a springloaded clutch (two brassplates and a spring) on the lever to...

    Exhaust valve forces

Trial and error is the most ineffcient way to go, as without any reference you'll sooner or later make false assumptions regarding complex connections. It turns out to run somehow on accident, not because you understood what the cause was or how it really works. Countless hours wasted, small...
