Taig vs Sieg X2 opinions welcome

Thanks Guys, I know I should really "go large" and you given me a lot to think about, I'm going to put off my decision until the week after the Ascot show, that way I will be able to see a few of the machines before I buy. Cheers David

Taig vs Sieg X2 opinions welcome

Hi all, Anyone got any opinions on which mini/micro mill to go for, the taig looks slightly less rigid than the Sieg but I don't know that that is true. Also the Idea of CNC appeals to me and am in two minds over whether to go for a non-cnc and convert at a later date or to go for a...

Engine of the Month - September

Now THAT's what I call an engine, I've been staring at the build pictures for what seems like an age, every part has had so much thought and time put into it, not to mention the shear skill involved. You've really raised the bar for all of us

    Mini lathe

Yep I bought my 7x14 from the same guy and have been very happy with both it and the service he supplies, when my forward/reverse switch went US he sent one out very quickly and with no quibbles. The price he has at the moment is the lowest I have seen for some time.

Mills 1.3cc diesel - Plans by Ron Chernich from Model Engine Builder magazine

Ignore this if it has already been said, The rubber cup in most commercial starters can be removed from the starters' pulley and flipped 180 degrees giving a flat face with a 10-15mm hole in the center. In my experience the flat face pushed against the prop is enough to turn the engine over...

    A First Engine

Well I'm certainly no expert on stirlings but I can tell you that they are not as hard as most people thnk, having said that you do need to be pretty bloody minded to get them to run. If you have access to a lathe a really good place to start for plans for LTD stirling engines would be Jan...

    August 08

I agree, but there have been a quite a few stunning engines this month but as this is a "first engine" and considering it is a complicated and from what I can see pretty difficult build, it gets my vote.

    Hello from Lincolnshire

Hi Richard I've read a few of you previous posts, It's good to see our children's' teachers are interested in the subjects they are teaching. It's funny, they say that everyone has at least one school teacher that they remember as being a mentor, personally I never found that mentor. My son on...

    Newbie's first engine.

Wow!! What a lovely piece of work! I have heard that these engines are really difficult to get right, a very brave move to make it your first engine, well played that man! Did you do all the milling work on the lathe with a vertical slide or do you have a mill too?

    vertical lamina flow engine?

Wes, I thought so too, but according to the stirling engine societies' web page they are not, the only difference I can see is that the "regenerator" stack occupies the entire hot cylinder on a thermal lag engine and there are definitely not any thermoacoustics going on? CC, I've just been...

    vertical lamina flow engine?

Update, I've been running a few experiments and for the life of me I can't get a lamina flow to run vertically, to be honest the rig I built would only just run horizontally. Sorry no pics, I've managed to break every single one of my stock of test tubes trying to cut them to tune the length...
