Model engineer show at Royal Ascot 19-21st september 2008

Hi Ralph, I did manage to get to Ascot and you are right there were not that many suppliers to charm the cash out of my pocket, there were a few little gems on display though and as my first experience of a larger show it was ok... I have made a note to self not to let any of the in-laws know...

    glow or spark ingition, difference?

Hi Debian, A glow engine is kind of half way between a Diesel (compression ignition) and a spark ignition engine, it uses a coiled wire in the glow plug to which retains the heat from the previous combustion cycle to ignite the compressed fuel/air mix on the next cycle. The fuel used is...

Model engineer show at Royal Ascot 19-21st september 2008

Will let you know Ralph but it's looking like Sunday for me at the moment. It's always nice to put faces to names so I will try to get the outlaws to sort themselves out for Saturday instead. Can't wait to look at the competition entries, they are supposed to be "legendary". David

Model engineer show at Royal Ascot 19-21st september 2008

Hi Ralph, Yep I'll be going as the family home is just outside Ascot so I will have somewhere to bed down, the only thing is that I'm not sure which day as I will have brother-in-law and father in tow. It does look like a good show though, I've been looking forward to it for some time. The...

    Another Grinder Injury Hits Home

Ouch, my heart goes out to your co-worker, it always seems to be when we do a "quick" touch up job that things go wrong. I have some experience of tendon damage on my right hand and forearm from a model helicopter accident and I can tell you that it was the most painful thing I have ever...

    Resurrection and Bling Fairies

ooooh, looking forward to that, engine turning is one of those things I have never tried and is probably something that looks easy but isn't. Personally I love the look of it. Any chance of one of your "walkthroughs"? Cheers David

    Re: First Engine No Plans.

Hi Rick, I think the only large beam engine still being used for it's original purpose in its original location is not far from me, at Crofton near Marlborough. They have it in steam quite often during the summer months and I can tell you it's well worth a visit. David

    Re: First Engine No Plans.

I know you are right John, I guess I'm still licking my wounds a bit from some of the VERY dubious decisions I have made over the past year or so. That's what's so great about this forum it has the power to inspire!! After constantly referring to your book on the twin I can see that taking the...

    Re: First Engine No Plans.

For me it would be a Porsche designed 4 cylinder horizontally opposed, perhaps the VW type 1 engine or maybe the Porsche 356 engine which are basically the same but with different cooling layout and a few internal changes. Not the prettiest of engines but IMO both masterpieces of simplicity of...

    No room for an X3

Would you believe it was only $1100/£550, I think that was a silly price but perhaps I am wrong.
