    1/4 scale V8, first project.

Ok. 3 or 4 psi is vacuum not positive pressure. Cam timing is spot on, I must have checked that 20 times, each time hoping to find something amiss, but have not. Lobe separation is 110, inlet full open 106 after tdc. I swapped the plug centre electrodes tonite to copper. They were steel, but no...

    1/4 scale V8, first project.

Luc, I've had a vacuum gauge on it. This was in place of the carb, not from a manifold tap with the carb installed. It pulled just over 2"hg, which is 3-4psi, at around 1000rpm. I realise a 50cc V8 won't pull anything like the vacuum a single cylinder 50cc would, but I don't know if that vacuum...

    1/4 scale V8, first project.

The ignition system is Powerspark Rci-200. This is their twin cylinder version. I reckoned if it will run a twin cylinder 2-stroke at 30000rpm then it would be fine for mine. I think now that I should have gone a bit more basic just to get the engine running, as this is another unknown really...

    1/4 scale V8, first project.

Hello strangers! For the last 6 weeks I've been hoping to post some news on how the engine sounds when it's running, but I'm still struggling to get it to start. Note this is with a simple Walbro carb and not the injection. I figured that if it won't run anyway then there's no point spending 6...

    Ignition sensor identifcation

Hi Luc, yes you did put a chip no. on your reply, but the link seemed to be for a different chip. The 556 and 566 may be the same tho', I don't know. Last year I decided I wanted to have variable advance in the ignition, because, that's just what I'm like But after spending 2 weeks over Xmas...

    Ignition sensor identifcation

Luc, I'm going to appear dumb again but, oh well... Not knowing much about different chips, at the start I thought someone was going to reply with 'yes it's a 45EXX??, RS stock number 222 333. Just solder a new chip in and everything's fine' Obviously it isn't as easy as that, in this...

    3D CAD and Model Engineering

Hmmm, interesting. I never thought there were so many fellow modellers using 3D CAD systems. Looks like it might be time to drag myself into the world of 3D. I always assumed it would take a lot longer to design stuff in 3D than 2D Autocad.

Luc, or do you mean scrap my sensor and 2 x resistors altogether and use the Hal556?

    Ignition sensor identifcation

Luc, sorry for appearing a bit dumb, but this range of sensors is a different shape and number of pins to my one. Do you mean I can wire this sensor in place of mine with a bit of fiddling around, or is this range of sensor available in sot23 arrangement. Cheers.

    Ignition sensor identifcation

Jack, yes that's the full sensor. Unfortunately there's weeks/months delay to get that part at the moment, so repairing the one I've got is the only option I can do at the moment. My 'full replacement sensor' comment you quoted from my earlier post meant that I'd like to locate an alternative...

    Ignition sensor identifcation

Luc, the company is www.power-spark.de. I've tried contacting them, they're a German company. I've asked if they can identify the sensor chip, but I'm not expecting a reply. Wish I'd not bought it now. Everything electonic I touch blows up!

    Ignition sensor identifcation

Ok, I think it's time to wind this one up before I cause any more trouble. Thank you for your time Gents. Keith.

    Ignition sensor identifcation

Ok, I've read through everything but I can't figure out what the chip is. It certainly looks like the Allegro A1145, which is now superceded with the A 1155. The only thing is that on the datasheets it shows the top pin (in my photo) isn't connected to anything, but mine is definitely wired into...

    Ignition sensor identifcation

just put a meter on it, whilst connected to the ign. module. One leg is 3.56v, the other 2 are down to earth. Magnet has no effect on other 2 legs. I guess it's toast? Originally when I was turning the engine over one of the plug leads earthed to the block, and I happened to notice a 1/4" spark...

    Ignition sensor identifcation

Hello all, I've been trying to get the V8 to fire up for the last 3 weeks, with no luck whatsoever. I've decided the spark plugs are the problem and am currently making a new set, as per George Britnell's tutorial. Anyway, during testing I think I've blown up the pickup sensor for the...

    1/4 scale V8, first project.

Just taken some full view pics as a lot has change since the last ones. It doesn't look much different to last time really, but nearly all the front is new, as well as bits and bobs elsewhere.

George, thanks for your drawing. I'm going to re-design my plug and see if I can get some sort of bush soldered to the end. High temp adhesive isn't going to work very well in ptfe I suspect. You are more organised than me looking at your drawing! Ian, the valve heads are 8mm dia, and the stem...

    1/4 scale V8, first project.

Thank you, all comments gratefully recieved, even if I don't reply straight back. Art, I will run it as is firstly. It may be that gearing up the pump 30% may be enough. However, it may need 10x more flow, in which case a different pump will be required, so I'll try it first. Bringing myself up...

Luc, the water pump is the type where the inlet is into the centre of the impeller, see pic. Some more pics, this is a simple water pipe for joining the water outlets from the block..... ...which fits here..... Latest underneath view...

Thanks for replying... Luc, there seems to be as many pics of impellers out there where the paddles continue to the middle, as there are like mine. When I've got time I'll try the other type. Propclock, the anodising dyes are from Gateros Plating, in the UK. The camshafts are now nearly...
