    Gyroscope plans or design

Here is a short video of a gyroscope I made this past spring just to see if I could. It kind of shows how it went together and it was fun to build. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQOp6n-EQ0A

Thanks John. What a list, of all the threads shown, I probably will use about 10, but it's nice to have information handy.

This worked for me. ;D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k-P1gmDbEw

    Pattern wood?

I have been using MDF. Easy to work with, cheap, no grain, and when painted, it will last very well through low volume castings.

Start of my 3rd engine on the 4th

Heat the ingot mold? I don't, I just pour the molten metal in. It pops right out when I flip the mold over! My aluminum stock is old cast hydraulic pump housing I have scavenged from work. Thanks for your comments.

Question re. valve 90 degrees to cylinder

Brian, Here is my version of that engine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60l7whGQ5OI http://chestofbooks.com/crafts/popular-mechanics/The-Boy-Mechanic-700-Things-for-Boys-to-Do/How-To-Make-A-Toy-Steam-Engine.html Here is where I got the idea - just made it fancier! Al

Start of my 3rd engine on the 4th

Hello all, I bet you figured I gave up on this project. Well, I did for over a year! A couple of weeks ago, after getting tired of looking at it on my bench in it's suspended state, I made myself get on with it. After a few issues, I got running and I am satisfied with how it runs. Now I'm...

    Rider Ericsson Engine

Nice looking castings and patterns - great job. All that work in the patterns, you have to more castings!

    Double Pendulum

Howdy, I haven't post anything in a while, just lurking now and then to absorb the wisdom of the group and enjoy the wonderful projects - besides it's cold out in the shop! I was intrigued by the double pendulum featured the the latest 'Home Shop Machinist' and was motivated to make a simple...

Really nifty link to an engine build thread.

Milton I couldn't couldn't agree with you more. I can't criticize how someone chooses to accomplish something. It's their design, equipment, and hide. I don't view this as a teaching video, but more of a "this is what i did and this is how I did it". I like his last comment when he has it...

Start of my 3rd engine on the 4th

Thanks Ralph. I like 'um big so I can see it work and so I can see what I'm doing when I'm making the thing! Since I'm making this up as I go, I'm not sure myself what is left to do and how complex it's going to end up. ::)

Start of my 3rd engine on the 4th

Managed to get a little more done on my 2 1/2 engine. Con rod, counter weight, and piston. Put a quarter in the photo to show the scale.

    Water Pressure Engine project

Wow! This is coming together nicely. Wonderful detailing on the parts. Looks like something you would find in Jules Verne novel! 20,000 leagues under the sea! ;D

    Rolling lathe bench

Thanks Tin and Crewcab. I was real into woodworking before the "metal disease" took over. I still enjoy both and with pattern making for castings for engines, I get to do both!! The videos are just for fun.

    New kind of gears

Birk you make the coolest things!! Your skill is amazing and imagination astounding! I like this as much as your bicycle powered riding lawn mower. I imagine you keep you neighbors scratching their heads and smiling. :D I wish I lived next door to you.

    My vertical marine engine project

This is a wonderful engine, masterfully done. Love the sound!! I think my next engine will have to be a multi. Once again, nice work - I can imagine putting on the river propelled by this great little engine. What fun!! Is that 6 mph up or down stream? ;)
