    Twingle engine

Beautiful models Mago. Not a ''twingle'' as in the Puch design, Triumphs were 360 degree four stroke twins and although both pistons travelled up and down at exactly the same time they fired on alternate revolutions.

    Acceptable castings from Kit suppliers.

IMHO you are not being topo picky. They are all poor quality castings.

    Ignition question

I get that a wasted spark on a single works because the wasted spark occurs on the exhaust. On a twin though, one cylinder on exhaust one cylinder on compression wouldn't the wasted spark on the exhaust cylinder stop the spark occuring on the compressed cylinder as the resistance is lower on...

fuel mixture issues. stuart 400 replica build.

Most full size gas engines use a demand valve. You can make one utilising a carb diaphragm. There are a few on the net. The best I've seen is http://www.model-engine-plans.com/engineplans/bookshelf/demandvalve.htm

    Dummy magneto hall sensor mount

I Like what you're doing. It's all on a back burner at the moment but I was working on some drawings for a Bosch flick mag for my 1/4 scale Gardner 3F. Just working from photos but it doesnt look a mile away from your second size one. I was going to put the three core from the hall through the...

    Problems with Steel

Are you feeding by hand? It may be that the drill is being damged breaking through. If the bit snatches at the end check the tip before trying to drill the next hole.

    India Tools

I generalise but having worked in India for a year commissioning an automotive hose factory I found them to be lovely people who's promises are like piecrust. They are great improvisors who can make almost anything from a pile of scrap. They just don't have any idea of quality and yet can...

Another Karl Benz 1886 Engine and Motor Wagon.

Ken. As you are making this from scratch at a smaller scale you should know that the design, as is, gives a very low compression ratio. Something like 2 - 2.5 : 1. This is insufficient to make the engine work consistently well. You should design the head with a spigot rather than a recess and...

How to create a female taper thread?

The fitting in pic 3 looks exactly like a brake line fitting. That would be 3/8 - 24 thread for the larger size that fits to the tank. The nuts should be readily available from your local motor factor as would be the flared tube made to your original shape. What size is the tube O/D ? 3/16...

How to create a female taper thread?

the 1st tap of a set just gives a truncated thread it is not the same as a tapered thread.

How to create a female taper thread?

Was the original female a taper thread? It is common practice to use a male taper into a female straight. It would make more sense if a flared pipe is being used. The Brass nut would partly take the taper form when tightened so it would be difficult to tell from the original part other than the...

How to create a female taper thread?

Tapping is as per a parallel tap. Depth of tapped thread being important though I am not sure why you want to use a taper thread with a flared pipe. It is possible for the thread to lock before the seal is made on the pipe flare. These joints usually use parallel threads. Also 5/16 is a non...

    Parting tool chatter

My potted history. As a ''Technical apprentice'' in Killingworth we spent a year each in turning, milling, fitting, toolroom or drawing office, college was in three month blocks. I went on to refurbing multi spindle automatics mainly Acme Gridley and Wickman for a company in Ashington. Then...
