I'm just getting back into model engineering after moving to Thailand from Australia. i was wondering if there were any like minded here. i researching at the moment for a lathe.

Your'e sure to find a suiable lathe new or used there.
Welcome to HMEM and to the LOS. You should be able to find whatever size lathe you want here in Thailand; there are several good machine tool suppliers in Bangkok and the surrounding areas. Do check out Alan Brown's http://modelengineeringinthailand.com as his Resource Section gives at least 2 lathe suppliers.
