    My Big Boiler Build

Your set up looks very good! I have only one comment: you might consider setting the copper assembly on a single burner electric hot plate and allow assembly to heat for at least an hour before beginning the solder operation. This will also limit the assembly temperature differential.

    My Big Boiler Build

Looks very good! I found getting that much copper heated to flow silver solder a real challenge, specially after you install the shell. I placed the assembly on a portable, single burner (electric stove top type) with the bottom portion of the assembly wrapped with a 1" thick blanket of...

    My Big Boiler Build

Very nice! Attached are photos of a very similar boiler I made years ago. It has a 6" Dia. shell by about 7" long with 40 each 1/2" fire tubes up the center. It has FiberFax between the shell and the redwood lagging. It has a propane burner with a 12V solenoid valve controlled by a pressure...

    Mini Buddy .021 ci engine

Thanks! When I get a little extra time I will make a dwg. of this! A couple of questions: How does the crankcase get lubricated? What does the adjustment on the top of the cylinder do? Thx., P.

Can you post the plans? What is the fuel mixture? 40:40:20 of what? You did say the 20 is kerosene!

Just looking for someone close by to share ideas and discuss machining projects. I also have some machine equipment for sale if you know anyone interested, it is for local pickup only, not interested in shipping. I live in Dickinson, not very close to Spring!

Last unbuilt Coles Corliss Steam Engine casting kit

I have built the Coles Corliss and sad to say I didn't keep a 'do's and don't' list but one thing comes to mind: The drawings I have called for 8-32 machine screws in too many places, particularly the cylinder assembly. I used 5-40's and certainly would not use anything larger than 6-40's. I...

The blow by groove actually improves sealing. Any flow causes a turbulence, which acts somewhat as an air seal. I used 12L14 precision stock from McMaster Carr.

Corliss Steam Engine (Coles Power Models)

Attached is photo of slitting saw operation and it looks like I used end mill for bevels, this was 4 years ago and my memory isn't serving me well. The third photo shows finished valves, note I cut a small groove in each end to serve as an air seal for blow by.

The valve was not trimmed to length and in a spin index. Don’t remember for sure but think I used an end mill. I’ll try and find pictures.
