One career in US Army. One as civilian Senior Biomedical Equipment Technician. Finally, I started one at the Telephone Company as a Network Repair technician. Eighteen months in, I fell off of a 20' pole and landed across a privacy fence (50 yrs. old). Broke R hip, 2 vertebrae, 14 rib fractures (in 6 ribs), R collarbone, and a severe concussion. Other than that, 'piece of cake'!
After numerous surgeries and therapies, I'm doing well. After all, that's what Vicodin and ice-packs are for, right?
I joined HMEM many, MANY years ago hoping to learn metal turning. I was all prepared to get a large lathe and have a go. Then, 'Uncle Sam' asked if I would do a few missions that didn't require physical efforts (I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you ...
).
After several years of being 'off the radar' ( sorry to any members trying to get a hold of me), I was mentored by various Wood Anatomists around the world. Now I have my own laboratory and was occupied full time with that. Now I want to get a 7x10 or 7x12 and start doing small projects as a way of decompressing from my day job.
I will now reengage on the forum by bugging the snot out of the membership since I'll be restarting at square one. I have permanent partial physical disabilities but none that I feel will effect new hobby.
Great to be back! Sorry for the long dissertation. I just wanted to explain to all of the kind people who helped me. I assure you I didn't just cut-n-run.
